Is Sex TrafficKing Happening in your properties?

Are traffickers using your properties to harbor their victims?

The answer very well could be yes!  Traffickers have to keep their victims housed somewhere and it is likely they are in our communities. As property managers we are one of the few groups that can get into the leased space where these victims are being kept. Think about our unique interactions with our tenants as we conduct  inspections throughout the lease term including special and routine maintenance. How many of us has ever had a maintenance tech or service provider report back to us lease violations such as illegal occupants, drugs, pest, and housekeeping issues? For this reason, it is so important for us as property management professionals to learn to recognize the potential red flags and to know the indicators of human trafficking. Education is a key step in identifying more victims and helping them find the assistance they need.

Consider a few key statistics:

History:

Triad Ladder of Hope was founded in 2005. We are a privately funded faith base, grassroots, non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating the exploitation, sale and enslavement of men, women, and children. We work with local, FBI and ICE to safely rescue victims from their situation. We work directly with rescued victims providing food, clothing, a safe shelter, medical needs, legal process and more as we meet their needs to begin the healing process on their journey of becoming a survivor.

Sandra H. Johnson, President and Founder:

Sandra was born in Valley, Alabama. She moved with her family to North Carolina when she was 13 years old. Today, Sandra has a family of her own, which includes three sons, seven grandsons, and three granddaughters.

Sandra is extensively active in her local church and has volunteered on many missions trips for more than 20 years. Nine of those trips have been to over seas missions in: Ukraine, Lebanon, and the Lesser Antilles Islands.

In 2004, Sandra began working with human trafficking issues under a federal grant. A year later, she stepped out in faith and founded Triad Ladder of Hope. In 2010, she left her part time job and was able to devote all of her time to TLH. Sandra has worked with rescued victims. She mainly serves North Carolina, but growing awareness has sent her to various other states to speak on the atrocities of modern day slavery.

Sandra serves as a Mission Service Corps Missionary through the North American Mission Board.
