Program

In 2018 Village East Apartments received an Acquisition Rehab under the North Carolina Housing Tax Credit Program which enabled extensive renovations including the replacement of many of the interior and exterior building components. Additionally, residents also received a new office/community building for social gatherings.  The development, which consists of 88 garden-style units in 11 two-story buildings was originally built in 1989 by Weaver Investment Company who has been committed to the community and the town of Kernersville since the beginning.  Weaver Investment Company has a long history in the LITCH Program with over 5,000 affordable housing units in the Carolinas and Virginia. The developer was assisted by their long-time cohort Partnership Property Management one of the 50 largest Management companies of affordable housing in the United States. In addition to the building components the community received a $15,000 Active Lifestyle Grant through the CAHEC Foundation towards the purchase of a wonderful youth playground.

Presenter info:

Vice President / CPM Candidate Jason Buffkin is in his 16th year with Partnership Property Management Company. Mr. Buffkin was over the entire renovation project from start to finish.  He will be at the May luncheon to walk us through some of the challenges he faced dealing with such a large rehab, especially since we were not moving out a majority of the residents during the process. He will also speak about the 504 Accessibility upgrades that were required to be completed. We will end with an interior tour of one of the units.
